Since June 2002 ERPANET (the European Commission funded Electronic Resource Preservation and Access Network) has run a series of seminars and workshops across Europe, bringing together international experts to explore topics related to digital preservation. This one-day workshop aimed to make accessible the results of several of these events to UK archivists and records managers.

The day began with a brief introduction and was followed by an explanation of how policies and procedures can be used to improve the preservation of digital materials and then by an examination of the current models for creating and populating digital repositories. The afternoon session reviewed current approaches to metadata and then examined how audit and certification procedures can contribute to ensuring that effective preservation methods are adopted and maintained. The penultimate session of the day made accessible recent thinking on the deployment of ISO15489 to provide a unified model of records management.
